As quilters, we know that a quilt can contain powerful messages from the giver to the receiver sewn on a label. Two of my favorites are:
"I count the stitches line by line / And watch the thread record the time" "Love and memories we impart / To quilt the fabric of the heart."
Sometimes, we want to be creative and stitch a saying right on the quilt itself!
Major Alexis T. Casdagli used his quilt in a very creative way. He included morse code in the borders to give his fellow prisoners hope while also showing disdain at the Nazi guards when he was a prisoner of war during WWII. A picture of his quilt (which we now call a sampler quilt) is below.
